Beautiful Bookshelf/Display Case

Please pardon the not so pretty background or staging of these pictures, but this is one HEAVY piece of furniture and "Miss Ann" is by herself today and was unable to move this lovely bookshelf on her own.  Perhaps we will get some "pretty" pictures posted soon, but we were so excited about this finished project that we wanted to share it with everyone!

This is a beautifully refinished bookshelf/display case.  It has been painted in an heirloom white and given a dark walnut stained finish.  We gave it a polyurethane coat for protection and durability.  A beautiful fabric backing with creams, browns, tans and aquas has been added, giving this piece an absolutely BEAUTIFUL outcome.

Dimensions are
Height 70 ", Width 37", and Depth 16"

Tween Appeal

"Niece Nelly" who recently turned 12 needed an update to a bookshelf that was in her room. She is in a new house and has new decor so refinishing her bookshelf was the next logical step.  The bookshelf before had worn out it's welcome, not to mention the fact that "Niece Nelly" had added her own personal touches by creatively drawing on various parts of the bookshelf when she was younger!

When it came to this project, we gave "Niece Nelly" complete control (however crazy that decision may have been!).  She chose the material, okay'd the paint color and approved the overall idea of how it would be completed.  The only thing she didn't pick out was the knob on the drawer, but we think she will love it anyway.

Hopefully this project is worthy of our favorite Tween's approval!

We love you Nelly!

Memorobilia Makeover

We have a wonderful customer who has just done some remodeling in her home and was looking for some creative ways to display a few of her heirloom keepsakes.
She had a fun old washboard, a darling miniature parlor chair, some silverware and an old grater that belonged to members of her family.  She was looking for a way to incorporate these items into her decor.

And here is what we came up with.....

The framed silverware and grater will hang in her kitchen.  We found a couple of frames, removed the glass and the backing, stapled on some wire, which we lightly painted brown to give it a more worn look, and then just tied the pieces on with raffia.  Super simple and SUPER cute!

The washboard will be sitting on the mantle above her fireplace.  Behind the mantle is a gorgeous rock chimney, but the original wood color of the washboard blended in with the rock.  We painted it in cream, gave it a slightly distressed finish, and then for a personal touch we added a monogram for the family name.

This darling  miniature parlor chair will sit next to the washboard on the mantel.  We gave it the same cream distressed finish and then added some pops of color as accents.  We found this quaint little frame and then wired on some beautiful red flowers with tea-dyed accents to add to the heirloom feel of setting.  We also placed a small faux book in the same color on the chair.

It so fun to see the wonderful transformation that just a few small items can take and how these little changes can add so much to a room.!

White Wedding

Over the last few months we have been collaborating with a wonderful wedding planner, Jenelle, who has started her own business with her husband, and so we have been developing some pieces specific to the weddings she is currently planning.  We just refinished the pieces below for an upcoming "Seaside Wedding."  All of the furniture will have a distressed look, like pieces that have been washed up on the shore and exposed over time to the incoming tide.  We think they turned out beautifully!

Aren't they dreamy and romantic?  We think they will look absolutely beautiful as part of the "Seaside Wedding."

For this same wedding we will now be working on a unique backdrop made of old doors.  We are so excited to see the outcome!  Come back soon and you can see it too!

And if you are ever in the market for a wedding planner who can create a unique and personalized look that is just for you, give Jenelle a call.  She is extremely talented, has great vision, and will ensure that every detail from big to small is exactly what you want!

The name of her business is
A Couple Designs

On a slighty different  note, we will be working up a storm this weekend on several different projects, taking advantage of the warm weather to get as much done as possible.
We are finishing a fun way to display some sentimental items for a wonderful customer and will be posting pictures of that soon.
We are currently working on a beautiful hutch that should be done by next week at this time.
All that and much, much more!
